You’ve operated a successful business or nonprofit for years, but now you want to take it to the next level. You want to go viral. You need a website with all the bells and whistles that speak to your products and services, and your business savvy. For some of you that means upgrades to existing websites. For others, that means building a website from scratch. Either way, you’ve got to engage a Web design firm. So, where do you begin?Canady’s Corner contacted Elevation Creation, a three-year-old design agency, for tips on how to prepare for your first meeting with a Web designer.

Led by Daniel Montano, the Denver-based agency boasts professionals who have designed, programmed and launched more than 100 websites in the past 10 years. All of the agency's current websites incorporate social media tools such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn. Below is a short Q&A with Montano.

Q: What are the top five things potential clients should do before submitting a project for website design to your agency?
Daniel:
1. A "needs list" and a "wish list" of enhancements or upgrades needed is essential. A "needs list" includes essential changes versus a "wish list" of more costly functions and eCommerce options. This list is for our first design and development discussion.
2. Over all visual ideas and pre-approved body copy written specifically for the Internet.
3. A list of a few websites that the organization likes and a list of the attributes that make them appealing.
4. Visual assets such as logo, photos or specialized illustrations.
5. Great websites require labor and time, so a good understanding and acceptance of a reasonable timeline needs to be established.

Q: What is the importance of each one in saving money and time?
Daniel: All will save time and money if done properly. Work usually does not commence unless the five items are addressed.

Q: How has the industry changed since you began?
Daniel: Basic good business rules still apply. The medium is the only thing that changes. But all organizations need good marketing and messaging. Internet tools and software will always continue to evolve, which help define our services. It's what keeps us motivated and challenged every day.
